Digital Photography and Imaging / Bachelor of Design (Hons) in Creative Media
Lecture
The very first thing Mr. Fauzi did in our first class was introduce himself and gave us a briefing on this module. Since we will be using Adobe Photoshop for our classes, he presented to us informations about the app; what it does, why we should use it and how it became the center of creativity.
I didn't understand why Adobe was so popular, because whenever I tried any of its software I quickly got overwhelmed by the UI. Every tutorial I looked up felt hard and tiring to do on my own, so when I saw in the first slide that Adobe Photoshop is the most user-friendly app, I was a bit shocked. I then realize that although it is a lot, it's actually one of the most convenient to use.
Afterwards, he showed us the importance of learning Photoshop for graphic designers. The main thing is that it helps to express our creativity. What I didn't know was that Adobe Photoshop can actually be used to restore old images and illustrate from scratch. There are ten tips we learned in this lecture to become a successful graphic designer.
To summarize, getting comfortable with Adobe softwares and memorizing the keyboard shortcuts are the most important. Mr. Fauzi says that once we memorize the shortcuts, graphic designing will feel like driving- we focus on where we want to go, and we don't need to think of how we will go there.

Task 1: Practice
º The Bezier Game

Fig. 2.3 Failed Attempt 2 (23/8/2021)
Our first task was to practice using the pen tool by playing the Bezier Game. How it works is by giving the players some shapes to outline using the tool, with every round giving more complicated shapes than the last. I don't know if it's the case, but what I understand is having more nodes to spare by the end is better.
I have never illustrated on my laptop, so this wasn't familiar to me at all. It took me many tries to fully understand the keys we should use- even after the tutorial round. I had to ask my classmates many times because I couldn't get the hang of it quickly, however with their help I managed to reach the end of the game with 20 nodes left to spare. In my free time, I attempted it again and finished with 46 nodes left.
º Creating my E-Portfolio blog
Creating this blog was a part of today's task, we will be using it the entire time we learn in Bachelor of Design (Hons) in Creative Media course. I followed several tutorials, one of them being Mr. Vinod's E-Portfolio briefing video for his typography class that I received from TIMeS. It wasn't from our digital photography and imaging class but I found it helpful as a template for my blog.

º Registering to Pinterest & Behance

I now own a Pinterest account as asked, which can be visited through this link. There's nothing much in there yet, as I don't use Pinterest often. Unfortunately, I couldn't get Behance to work.
º Top Favorite graphic design works from Pinterest and why I like them
The last task for our first meeting is to search through Pinterest for graphic designs we like and write down the reason for it. I found all of the images below through Pinterest, but because it's a reposting website, I reverse searched the images with Tineye so i can (hopefully) properly credit where it came from originally.
This is one of my top favorite images on Pinterest under the graphic design category, mostly because the colors contrast each other, making the main image pop and catch my attention. For thats same reason, I feel energized and inspired to create after seeing it.
Fig. 2.8 Second Image(Scroll down in 'Collection 01')
I saw this picture during the first week’s meeting for Digital Photography and Imaging, and later after being given the practical task I discovered it again on Pinterest. I’m not entirely certain why, but Magdiel Lopez’s work radiates a calming vibe. I suspect it's because of the minimalistic background with saturated and bright colors.
Fig. 2.9 Third Image(No need to scroll)
The last picture I chose is a bit different. I'm usually more attracted to artworks with brighter colors, and this image is dimmer compared to the first two, making the whole image look duller. Instead of scrolling further, I looked at this image more. It turns out, the darker colors enhances the charm of it. Being titled ‘Mr Witness’, the numerous eyes are fitting and the mess where the head should be adds to the mysterious aura. It makes me wonder, “what’s going on inside his head?”
