Digital Photography and Imaging / Bachelor of Design (Hons) in Creative Media
Week 3
Week three was focused on getting us started on using Adobe Photoshop. Mr. Fauzi mainly explained about the uses and importance of a few basics; the lasso tool, the pen tool, and layers. The pen tool can actually be used as a selection tool like the lasso is, but since it would be more accurate for curves, there are a few extra steps. Other than that, we were given time to start on our task immediately.
Task 1-E2: Digital Collaging
Once physical collaging is over, we move on to digital collaging to get ourselves familiar with Adobe Photoshop. We were given a set of photos to work with; fishes, buildings, textures, and a plant.

When the contents of our digital collage was revealed, I immediately saw the fish and the glass windows of the building. Both of those remind me of an aquarium, so I cropped out a lot of the windows to make room for the bigger fish. The top right part felt empty and nothing other than the main fish's tail was behind the layer of the building, so i added two textured backgrounds. I thought a red sun would be a great way to fill up the space as well, and adding plants fit the theme.

For my second composition I first looked at images I hadn't used for the first one. I looked at the train station and thought the other end could come out of something. Originally my idea was that 'something' would be the typewriter, but the perspectives didn't quite match so I switched over to the building. This one in particular didn't have a direction, and I just went along with whatever I thought would look nice.
Fig. 4.3 Pre-Composition 3 (9/9/2021)
This one had much more going on in it. Going off of the last pre-composition, I still wanted to make one where some things come out of the typewriter. at first, it was just the newspaper, and the keys that spell out 'collage' if read in order. The original problem is that the colors were too close and made all of them barely visible, as there was no contrast. I fixed this issue by masking a dark texture on the newspaper layer, and adding windows under the individual letters for different images to be placed underneath it. Since that was taken care of, I realize the empty space behind the typewriter wasn't any good, so to quickly solve it I added the red colored texture behind it so that it may pop.
