 Lecture

Continuing our lecture, we learned about adjustments and filters. Both of these include color correction and hues. Mr. Fauzi introduced these to us by showing a video about it, and then proceeded to do his own version of a tutorial. Information I gained was fairly easy to understand, and I managed to mess around with my digital collage with the help of it.

Task 1-E2: Photo Filters and Adjustments

Once the final pre-compositions were reviewed, I was advised to stick with the first image. I placed it down on Photoshop and scanned for things I wanted to change.

I somehow managed to delete the first version file, and if I remember correctly they were all merged layers either way, so I decided it was a good time to restart the composition. This time, I created two layers for the building; one without windows and the other with lowered opacity, so the feel of the glass is still there even if it actually isn't.

I tried recreating the first composition as best as I could, and since I had more experience now than I did the previous week, I was able to do it faster. The only thing I needed left was to adjust filters.

Mr. Fauzi advised not to change too much, however I really wanted the fishes and the sun to stand out more than the rest, which is why the fishes are brighter and the building itself is dulled. At this point I thought the  rubber plant was a little much, but I realize that without it, I changed more than the original composition, and I did not want that.

After experimenting with the colors, I found a version that I liked, without taking away the color of the rubber plant. I edited the sun to look a brighter orange, contrasting with the blue and pink tinted fishes.

Finally, I finished week four with my digital collage done.

 Feedbacks

General Feedback

There wasn't much feedback given to us in our first week as we had just started, but in our second week Mr. Fauzi brought up that even though there are many rules regarding composition we shouldn't worry too much about if we don't always want to follow them. When our physical collages were reviewed we were told to experiment with what we like and try applying the compositions to the work.

Specific Feedback

After reviewing my pre-compositions for our first exercise, Mr. Fauzi says I should go with the second pre-composition for physical collage, and first pre-composition for digital collage.

 Reflections

I started off with a lot of worry from the pressure of wanting to do good at everything, but with the lecturer's help I was able to learn and understand the materials while also adjusting to my new life. I was overwhelmed at first by how many laws and rules there are in the world of design, and felt helpless as there wasn't any ways to go around them.

However, I've understood that it won't take away the originality within our designs. I learned the basic compositions and have tried applying it on my exercises and experimented with it in my illustrations, as that's what I enjoy doing most.
