Project 2A: Photo Recoloring
The next part of project 2A after Hearst Mansion photo manipulation is to practice photo recoloring. We were all given a certain image that was in black and white and asked to recreate it by adding colors to give the image some life.
Following Mr. Fauzi's instructions during class, I started to work on adding the colors. I preferred using a harder brush so I adjusted it. After adding the color of the skin, I used 'overlay' as the layer filter.
Once that's done, I moved on to the eyes. At first I colored in the scleras with a lighter tone from the skin color, because in reality our eyes are never fully white. I continued with adding a brighter brown color for the irises, and used multiply for the scleras and overlay for the irises.
Moving on, I outlined the hair and lips and colored them in after turning off the background layer visibility. I couldn't decide if it was better with or without the hair's effects and adjustments.
By the end of practical class, I ended up with these layers and filters added.
However, after revisiting the image in the evening I realized that it didn't look so natural, And I realized there was no blush added, so I messed around with the brush and smudge tool and adding a little bit of reddish hues, while also darkening the eye color. In the end, the layer without effects looked like this (fig. 1.12).
I realize as well that I didn't use the layer mask technique for the background after watching the tutorial video, so i
Following the video tutorial, I picked a color similar to the first try I did and used a light pink.
I applied the layer mask to the entire layers underneath the background layer. I didn't understand how to do this at first, and had some struggles with applying the masking. I opened a tutorial. I then inverted the mask using (CMD + I).
After it's inverted, I applied the blending mode for the layer as soft light.
Finally, below are the layers after I had changed them.
