Final Project
3 STOP MOTIONS
1. GULDIES - FANTASIA
I have been a subscriber of this channel for a long time. The reason I chose this specific video is the same as the reason I subscribed back then. The plot of the animation is a little bit up to interpretation, the movement and design of the monster is interesting, and the sound effects are perfectly synced so it doesn't feel awkward while watching.
2. TOMOSTEEN - LEGO BREAKFAST
I have seen several of these stop motion LEGO cooking videos as I scroll through different social medias. I chose this one specifically because it's simple and has good sound effects, and includes a cat bread.
3. PES - FRESH GUACAMOLE
Similar to the one before, this stop motion features making guacamole. The difference between this and the last one is that the objects transform from one random item to another, and isn't limited to legos. The sound effects in this stop motion are also very well done.
3 VISUAL EFFECTS
1. KEVIN PARRY - TURNING MYSELF INTO RANDOM OBJECTS
I like the setting of the videos and the execution of the idea where the creator falls or does something that turns him into something else.
2. ZACH KING - TOP 10 ILLUSIONS
As a recommendation from the lecturer, I checked Zach King's works on youtube. I chose this one because I like that the explanation is revealed after each clip and I like that it's executed well using the right backgrounds and sound effects.
3. LIGHTS ARE OFF - COMPILATION
One of my favorite visual effects compilations are from this account, Lights Are Off. I like the art style of it all being generally creepy while using pre-existing characters to scratch the nostalgia in our brains to invoke more sense of fear. The lighting used for each clip is done well.
Clay - Stopmotion
WORKING TITLE
Clay
STOP MOTION/ VISUAL EFFECTS Stop motion (Mainly paper, the ‘creations’ will be clay)
SYNOPSIS (ONE PARAGRAPH ONLY) A child is shown at the start creating sculptures out of clay. The child keeps making more and more of them, turning them into a hobby. The child, who is now a young adult, manages to set a path in life based on that hobby. Over time, the clay is shown to turn into paper. The protagonist, looking exhausted, keeps accidentally making paper creations instead of clay. The protagonist’s creations are no longer unique and nobody has an interest in them, and the protagonist no longer has the motivation to produce them. After a long and disproportionate break, the protagonist wakes up to a bright sunrise and decides to try making something again. The protagonist is able to make clay sculptures again and rediscovers their hobby.
VISUAL REFERENCES/MOOD BOARDS (rational, screenshots & Links): TITLE01: Guldies - Fantasia
The plot of the animation is a little bit up to interpretation, the movement and design of the monster are interesting, and the sound effects are perfectly synced so it doesn't feel awkward while watching. Character design in this stop motion is very fluid, the monster basically changes every few seconds through creepy transitions. I will use this as a reference for the clay sculptures.
TITLE02: jeanvaniercatholicss - Paper Motion Animation
I want to try this style of stop motion as it still captures dynamic scenes- and the motion blur effect. I like the simplistic character design that gets balanced by the complex animations. The animation includes a scene where the characters break free from their 2-dimensional nature and rescue the other character.
TITLE03: Julie Adam - My Little Magic Book
I needed more references to use for sections of the animation I'm doing that includes interactivity from the paper and the clay. In this case, it's paper and a human hand.
SYNOPSIS (REVISED)
A creator is shown at the start creating a clay sculpture. Delighted with their creation, they sell the sculptures, which attracted customers. After the sculptures are sold out, another customer demands another. Feeling pressured, the creator tries to make a sculpture, only to find out their abilities are no longer there and the clay becomes paper instead. The customer gets upset and leaves. The child, distraught, breaks into pieces. Later picked up by another clay sculpture, the creator wakes and attempts to create again. With needed time taken and no pressure, the creator was able to turn more than just clay into sculptures, but also their own reality.

Reflection
For this final project, I was overwhelmed with the possibilities. Unfortunately, only 30 seconds was tolerated, and I had to make the most of it in that half minute. I planned out the characters on a digital canvas, then drew a simple storyboard as a reference. Though many changes were needed to make the cut, I was satisfied with the final product. I realize I still need to improve my audio editing skills, but I was delighted to see my project work out okay.
Through observing my friend's projects as well, I noticed that it's a better workflow to separate each process within a span of a few weeks, to produce the optimal outcome. I noticed as well that I've started to listen around me to sounds that I can use to imitate different sounds that might come in handy in the future.
