Props
The first step for the final project is to create a close-up of the props.
For the props, I chose to do the close-up of the scale as it has extreme significance and the fountain's head. The scales took inspiration from Indonesian carvings, mostly ones depicting their version of evil forces; which is in theme with the idea I had. The same goes for the fountain head- but only vaguely. It's only taken as inspiration.
I wanted to make sure the props were obviously part of the interior and exterior set, using red-yellow-greens as the main colours. The pupils were drawn red to invoke fear in the viewers; or at least increase the scare factor.
Exterior
There were a few fixed that needed to be done to the exterior, firstly- removing the big tree that used to cover up the right part of the temple. I emptied that space, then added small breakers to the walls and windows; as long as other perspective fixed based on the information I've gathered throughout the weeks.
Also worth mentioning, is that I split the top floor's roof into two, creating a more obvious opening for the 'souls' to have a clear path. The main entrance is also highlighted to catch the viewer's attention. The roofs were also adjusted to look cleaner, as well as minor adjustments to the pillars and stairs.
After that was done, I focused on separating the main building from the splash art. There were added varieties for the roof trims, the pillar's bases, and the front main entrance. The main element I wanted to incorporate was the 'teeth', since is symbolizes consumption. In this case, it's human souls that are being consumed by the temple in some way.
Interior
Finally, the minor adjustments needed to be added to the interior were the better candles and added patterns to the walls.
There isn't much worth mentioning regarding the interior. However, as seen in the image there are callouts to what inspired the shapes of the pattern on the pillars and walls.
Feedback
- Remove the hair strands for the final interior.
- Add more details to the exterior.
- Identify where the light reflects for the exterior.
- Identify the main focus of each artwork and add textures.
- Avoid overusing textures too.

Experience
The experience I gained from the final project was interesting, to say the least. There were many nights I'd lost sleep over cleaning up the artwork, and probably many more to come. Funnily, since I had taken a break from adjusting the exterior, coming back to it was refreshing. I was excited again to fix my mistakes and focus on what was necessary. It really goes to show that taking breaks does wonders- if only it could be implemented more often.
Findings
I'm skipping the observations- it's pretty much in the same category as findings for this time. Throughout this entire module, there was new information I managed to gather. Firstly- I was able to speed up my painting process by:
- Using 3D model block-outs (Blender is free!!)
- Using the lasso tool for 'straight' lines
- Using a minimal amount of layers (I usually only go up to 3 for main images, and the rest are effect layers that won't work once merged)
- Focusing on the bigger main details
- Using a big sized brush
- Using one main brush!
