Project 2: Interior and Set Design

For this task, I started off thumbnailing three angles of the boss' main room. The angles are the table where it all plays out and the stairs that take you to the next level. The idea was that the stairs would have visible streaks of blood as if they dump corpses in that area- but the main table was more important to focus on.

After receiving feedback, it was advised to go with the first idea. I proceeded with creating the image based on the feedback taken and did it mostly with the symmetry tool. After doing so, it did become a predicament as it was now difficult to make asymmetric adjustments, save for the blocked door on the right that leads to the outside.

Since speed was yet again important to take into consideration, I focused on cleaning up one sketch. The idea was that the 'masks' also take in streams of blood as a 'menacing' factor. The line in the middle is a gateway to the highest floor, which leads the trapped souls- symbolized by the candles- to roam about the rooftop of the exterior.

After another feedback session, I detailed the candles and cleaned up the 'gateway'. I wanted it to be as close as possible to the original game's intentions, which is to have a focus on the table and little elements surrounding the main area with small puzzles (or more details of scares). Of course, the scale and bell is important to include within the image.

Feedback

  • Make the ceiling taller.
  • Add highlights/darkened areas on the wooden beams for the ceiling.
  • Add texture for the flooring, it's still very plain at the moment.
  • Make the top base of the pillars different coloured from the wooden beam as it's merging.
  • Draw the candles properly.
  • Create a better visual for the table to be the main focus.

Reflection:

Experience

The main thing about this project is that I really wished there was more time to focus on it, or more time to spare to finalize and sync everything. My skill level has clearly improved, yet hardly enough to be considered 'good'. I believe my perspective is still off and deserve more time and care into it.

Observation

Based on what I've seen, there was little care for the interior given the time given. Unfortunately, we were hardly able to learn much from each other within this timeframe.

Findings

Something I noticed about using the symmetry tool is that it's actually pretty dangerous for sparking ideas- at least on my end. It was difficult figuring out what I could change without breaking the balance in the image, and I've not yet mastered it enough to actually make something out to if that would look good.
