Process

For the second project, the interior, I really wanted to create a comfortable and cosy look (the passengers are royalty on long-hour trips!), but obviously needed the pilot's area. I opted for a two-roomed interior. I started off with blocking everything out in a 3D model to speed up the process.

After doing so, I moved on to creating the thumbnail sketches of the rooms using Figures 1.2, 1.3, and 1.4 as the base. I also used Angle 5 (Figure 1.5) for the orthographic top view to show just where and what are in the rooms.

After sketching them out, I moved on to giving them shadows and adding volume to the entire look. Colouring came after, using the same colour palettes that were used for the exterior.

After consulting, the view of the cockpit was decided to be the final composition that'll be used for this project. I worked on adding beams and properly adjusted the size of the seat as well as refined the steering wheel.

Feedback

  • Add beams to separate the walls
  • Focus more on the cockpit area, otherwise, it'll be more of a normal interior than one of a vehicle's
  • More details!
  • Make the planks smaller in the final project.

Reflection:

Experience

Making the interior was one of the most fun experiences I had. I really like how comfortable it looks with the warm light and colours. There were some times when it was frustrating trying to figure out the chair's perspective- it just wouldn't work out the way I wanted it to.

Observation

Talking about colours again- I noticed there were colours that really create a sense of royalty- mainly gold, then accompanied with either white or any dark colours to make it pop. Usually, for a steampunk-ish feel, the combination would be that gold colour- which also could be copper- and a dark brown or red. It really adds to the vibe.

Findings

Finally, I realize that there were SO many brushes and stamps we could use, and I was originally afraid to use it since I didn't want to become reliant on them, but it really helps speed up the drawing process by a ton.
